Run for love and charity at the Valentine’s Day 10 km Night Run and 5 km Romantic Fun Run on Valentine’s Day, Tuesday 14th February around the scenic Parys Golf and Country Estate, situated on an island in the Vaal River in Parys.


This is an annual event. This year it will be at the Parys Golf and Country Estate in Parys on Valentines Day, Tuesday 14th February.

This is a real community event with all types of runners, fast and slow. A particular feature of this race is fancy dress. Pictures from previous events can be found on our Facebook page and some below from the 2014 event. 2017 will be the sixth event.

DSC02254Runners, walkers and their families of all abilities are welcome. The
5km lap is one loop around this beautiful and scenic location. 10km entrants will run 2 laps. The course is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs though there are some rough areas. No walkers are allowed in the 10km.


The runs, hosted by Parys Golf and Country Estate (PGCE) and organised by the Rotary Club of Parys and Epilepsy SA NW and FS Branch are a joint fundraiser to help local disadvantaged people.

Date: Tuesday 14th February 2017

Start time: 18:15. Both 5km and 10km runs start together.

Route. Start at boat house. 1 or 2 loops. The loop is starts along the gravel road along the banks of the beautiful Vaal River then onto the paved roads through the nature area taking you to a high point with a wonderful open view of the Vredefort Dome. You then come downhill to the finish.

Wheelchairs and pushchairs are welcome but please note there are some rough sections. There are no lights along the river so if you are a slow walker, bring a torch.

Water stops: There will be one at the boat house. 10km runners can take a drink before starting their second lap

Refreshments. Alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages, boerewors rolls and hamburgers will be on sale at the boat house from 17:00. There is also a Valentines Buffet available at the PGCE club house for R120pp. Bookings are essential as in previous years the restaurant has become fully booked. Please note that for safety reasons, as it is not possible to provide lights by the river, picnics will not be allowed this year.

Entry fees: 10km R60. 5 km Adult R30 Child R20.

How to enter. You can download the entry form above, fill it in, scan it in and email it back with proof of payment to  On the Day. Entries will be available at PGCE from 17:00 at the boathouse.

Prizes. There will be a prize for best dressed man and woman or couple. Spot prizes for randomly chosen runners are expected but subject to sponsorship. There are neither cash prizes nor trophies nor medals

Parking: Please enter the Parys Golf and Country Estate by the entrance on the R59. Security staff will direct you to the parking which is opposite the boat house

Toilets: at the boathouse

Cut off time: 90 minutes. Marshals will be withdrawn at 19:45
